An En-Suite Upgrade

Every Ferraro & Co. design project starts with a thoughtful space plan. Before we talk about color, wood finishes, or fabrics, we make sure the layout flows well and functions for the way our clients live. Space planning is one of my favorite parts of the design process because I love walking into a space and seeing the opportunities to make it work better, often with just a few strategic changes.

When my clients asked me to reconfigure their first-floor bedroom and hall bath into a dedicated primary with an en-suite bath, I knew we could create something that felt both functional and intentional. Rather than simply updating the existing rooms, we looked at how the spaces could work together to create a more private, cohesive, and comfortable retreat.

Before:

The bathroom and bedroom opened directly into the kitchen, which offered no privacy and created a flow issue in the kitchen. By closing up the doorways and moving the bedroom entrance to the front of the house we created a private entrance and made more usable space in the kitchen.

By moving the doorway and closing off the original opening, we were able to open up the layout and create a spacious shower

The new bath layout features a walk-in shower finished with rich green Zellige tiles and custom niches.

A playful mosaic floor pays homage to the home’s 1950s Cape Cod architecture, adding a touch of whimsy and vintage character.

To maximize storage in this compact space, we selected a vanity with deep drawers and incorporated both a medicine cabinet and an apothecary cabinet, proving that even a small bath can be both highly functional and full of personality.

By making a few strategic changes to the layout, we created a seamless connection between the bedroom and bath, along with the comfort and luxury of a true en-suite. It’s a great reminder that sometimes, a few thoughtful changes can completely transform how a space feels and functions.

Is your space not working with your life style, we’d love to help you find your flow.  We partner closely without clients to create livable beautiful homes that feel just right, where style and function work hand and hand.
